How to Resume Operation After a Chain-Driven Electric Hoist Malfunctions

How to restore operation after an electric chain hoist malfunctions? In daily use, internal electrical components in the main control circuit may be damaged, wiring may be severed, or contacts may become disconnected, all of which can prevent the hoist from operating normally. So, how should we respond when such a situation occurs?

Chain Hoist with Electric Drive

First, the main control circuit must be thoroughly inspected, and the power supply to the hoist motor must be disconnected. This is to prevent sudden energization of the three-phase motor from the main and control circuits, which could damage the motor or cause serious hazards if the hoist motor were to start running under power.

Next, switch the power to the pause and jog start positions, and carefully inspect and analyze the control electrical equipment and wiring conditions. Repair or replace any faulty components or sections of the wiring as necessary. Only after confirming that both the main and control circuits are free of faults may the system be started.

If the motor terminal voltage is found to be more than 10% below the rated voltage, the equipment will fail to start and operate normally. In this case, a voltmeter must be used to measure the voltage.

Sharpening the knife does not delay the woodcutter; similarly, performing routine maintenance on a chain-type electric hoist during daily operation will significantly enhance our work efficiency!

1. After use, the hoist shall be thoroughly cleaned and coated with anti-rust grease, then stored in a dry location to prevent moisture-induced rusting and corrosion of the electric chain hoist.

2. Maintenance and overhaul shall be performed by personnel who are thoroughly familiar with the hoist mechanism. Clean the hoist components with kerosene, and apply grease to the gear and bearing areas for lubrication. Unauthorized disassembly or reassembly by individuals who do not understand the operating principles and performance characteristics of this equipment is strictly prohibited.

3. After cleaning and maintenance, the hoist shall undergo no-load testing to verify proper operation and reliable braking before it is put into service.

4. The friction surfaces of the brake must be kept clean. The brake assembly should be inspected regularly to prevent brake failure and the resulting free fall of heavy loads.

5. The rollers of the left and right bearings of the hoisting sprocket on the electric chain hoist may be coated with grease and then pressed into the inner rings of the bearings that have already been press-fitted onto the sprocket shaft journal, before being installed into the outer rings of the wall-mounted bearings.

6. When installing the braking mechanism of the electric chain hoist, ensure that the ratchet teeth engage properly with the pawl teeth and that the spring provides flexible and reliable control over the pawl. After mounting the hand-chain wheel, rotate it clockwise to press the ratchet and friction plates firmly against the brake base; when rotated counterclockwise, a clearance should be maintained between the ratchet and the friction plates.

7. For ease of maintenance and disassembly, one link of the hand chain shall be an open-link type (welding is not permitted).

8. During refueling and operation of the electric chain hoist, the friction surfaces of the braking mechanism must be kept clean, and the braking performance should be regularly inspected to prevent brake failure from causing the load to drop uncontrollably.

Applications and Advantages of Double-Chain Electric Hoists

While at work, we often encounter various types of hoists, each with its own specific functions; the double-hook electric hoist is one such example. An electric hoist is a lifting device powered by an electric motor, primarily used for handling and lifting large materials. It enhances operational efficiency, reduces workers’ physical strain, and ensures precise material handling. In addition, the double-hook electric hoist features fully automatic control and safety devices, enabling it to meet the demands of diverse working environments while maintaining safety and reliability.
